Irritating things Ugandan online shops must stop
Here are 5 annoying things Ugandan online stores must stop ASAP.
1. Telling prospective clients to DM for prices.
You are probably an online shop with thousands of followers, but keep posting items without price tags and want people to inbox you to know the price. What are you afraid of displaying your prices? Usually, online sellers that don’t display price tags on their products are scammers or sell items at exploitative prices that are way above the market standard. Stop that habit, please. Some of us don’t have time to waste inboxing you for price.

2. Stealing people’s photos to market yourself.
Many online businesses in Uganda thrive on ‘theft’. Someone does not know how to bake, but they steal photos of good-looking stuff made by professional bakers and market them as theirs. You get excited and order a cake from them but cry when you see what has been delivered. Please use images of your actual products. Stop stealing and using other people’s photos.
3. No active contact.
A seller advertises a product and attaches a contact number. But when you try to call the attached number, the number is either off, or they simply don’t pick up the call. And if they pick, they will speak with so much arrogance and emotions as if a customer is their co-wife.
4. Switching off the phone.
I made an order for pork from an online pork seller. He promised he would deliver my order in an hour. Two hours later, no order is delivered. He claims my order is on the way and will be delivered in the next 30mins. After another hour, I call again, and their number is off. Later I realized the seller had denylisted my number. That’s how I lost time and money. Please don’t sell what you can’t deliver!
5. Delivering substandard goods.
It can be a laptop, phone, dress, electronics or food. The saddest thing is that these online shops are never apologetic even when it’s clear their service is bad.
